Project 4: Photoshop Experiment

Project 4: Photoshop Experiment
For project 4 i chose a model and took a series of photos of her with different lighting and taken in different angles and positions. I was left with about 30 images of the model and needed to narrow them down to three. For the Photoshop experiment i imported all 3 images into Adobe Photoshop and changed the image by Hue, Saturation, Colour and Tone. I was left with three images which were different from the originals i different ways. The Project shows the different applications on Adobe Photoshop, that can be used in Editorials and final photograph images in other projects.

Project 5: PowerPoint Presentation Research

PowerPoint Presentation research was done in our group work, to show our tutor and guest photographer what we wanted to get out of our project. The PowerPoint shows research into our designer, photographer and publication, and shows the movement, location and modelling we want out of our final editorial pages.

Research for Project 5: ID Magazine

Fashion, Art & Music
ID Magazine

ID has become a a source of inspiration in the fashion culture. Introducing fashion, music and art to the ID buyers and representing itself in the punk rock culture, the magazine has created a reputation to inspire and promote creativeness.
ID magazine will suit the project because of its influence in the creative arts culture, and how the magazine promotes punk culture as well as Vivienne Westwood and Helmut Newton.
"Punk" is the main word to focus on to tie the designer, publication and photographer together.

Research for Project 5: Helmut Newton

Helmut Newton
Fashion Photographer
Died: 2004

Newton is known for his explicit and "erotically charged" photography. All in Black and White-Newtons fashion photography doesn't hesitate to push the boundaries to promote fashion.
He started his career in Australia, until he got a 12 month contract with British Vogue, then moving onto Australian Vogue and finally French Vogue. He has also worked with Harpers Bazaar, Playboy and other publications.
His work was renowned to be nude and explicit, but his taste in fashion always came through in his work.
Although he is known for his fashion photography, Newton also worked in portraiture, but his iconic style comes through more in his rude photography that shows attitude and confidence in the model.

Research for Project 5: Vivienne Westood

Vivienne Westwood
Born: 1941
Westwood came about creating a new quirkiness to fashion and introducing a new level of punk rock to fashion. The designer pushed the boundaries on what was "usual" and showed her fashion through radial cutting, underwear as outerwear and miss-match fabrics.
In the 70's Westwood met manager of the Sex Pistols; Malcolm Maclaren, and later opened a shop together on London's Kings Road. The shop was known as the height of the punk movement, and it sold clothes in leather, rubber and promoted the peak of the punk culture.
Westwood is one of the mos influential designers, with collections shocking the public with its outrageousness, with themes such as pirates, watches and her 'erotic zones' collection. But as much as her designs are slated for exploitation, her punk rock and re-inventive style is distinctive, and always one that never fails to impress.

Tommy Nutter

Tommy Nutter was a bespoke tailor who had his own store on Saville Row from the 1960's onwards. I came across information on him after doing research for our PR assignment. Nutter tailored his "up-to-the-minite" fashion suits for celebrities such as Mick Jagger, Elton John and even tailored for the whole shoot of The Beatles, "Abbey Road" album cover.
Tommy Nutter died in 1992, but is still remembered through his ready-to-wear store, Austin Read.

Alexander McQueen and his legacy..

In a three page spread in February's issue of Vogue, Harriet Quick, one of Vogues journalist's talk to Sarah Burton, on how she plans to keep Alexander McQueen's label going strong, after his death last year. The article was interesting to read, as it let the reader hear the rise and fall of McQueens life and work, though his close friend of 13 years, and co-worker; after hiring her straight from university in London.
I've also done work on McQueen in my styling project. We wanted to create a dark and fairytale like mood in our photo shoots, and for further research, i looked into McQueen's work, and how his models moved in his dark designs down the catwalk, it helped to create the same mood in our fashion shoot.

American Apparel's "Flannel" collection promotion...

Grabs your attention... but are you not looking at the shirt?

Vice Magazine..

Collected it on my travels in London. Its a bit crude and different, but i like the articles and the controversial art-work an photography..

The Final Page....

.. and my copy..

Compare page 3...

Orininal page 3 of the article..

...my poor attempt.

This didn't turn out very well. Just looking at it now, i can already point out a number of things wrong with my copy. I think this happened because i ran out of time with InDesign.

Compare Page 2 of Article...

Original copy of page 2...

....My copy

Digital Technologies Assignment..Compare Page 1 of Article....

This is the scanned vesion, page 1 of the aricle....

...and heres my copy of it!
I tried really hard to find a font that was the same but this was the only one that came close. You can't tell as much on the context of the article but it stands out when its put by-side each other on the title because its such large typing. The image looks asif it need to be put brighter on photo shop and the original photo takes up a little bit more room on the page than mine aswell.

No5..

The new Chanel No5 adertising campaign really stood out of Harrods' shop window in London. The same advert is being used in Harvey Nichols, Debenhams and in magazines such as Vogue and Elle. Asif Chanel's No5 brand wasn't classy enough anyway, this new campaign gives a new look of extra glamour.
Their PR team have worked hard to make it stand out from the other shop windows and adverts in the magazines, even their tv advert has been updated.
.. all in time for christmas!

Capture Christmas Fashion in 3 Minutes.

Heres a few clips of the Christmas Window displays in London, incuding shops such as Topshop, The White Company and HnM... There not very good at the moment, but im hoping they'll be a bit better after editing them into a 3 minute long video...

Fashion Comunication & Promotion students went on a trip to London,

Harrods' Peter Pan display: a bit of fun with fashion and film promotion...

Christmas had arrived in London town with over-sized baubles, fake snow, glitter, lights, fur and fab layered outfits, getting you ready for the real snow!

Video shots were taken of the Christmas displays of the fashion windows for a project in my Digital Technologies module. We had to capture an influential part of London- to do with fashion- and make a three minite film out of it, it was hard to think of an ida at first but i decided to make my London Fashion film on this after seeing the amazing window displays when walking down Oxford Street, Bond Street and even inspirtation from Camden Market and Brick Lane.

Gorgeous Vintage Style Kimono Dress

Emilio Pucci's creative director, Peter Dundas

Beautiful scarlet chiffon dress by Emilio Pucci

Ive chosen to us this article in some Digital Technology work. the images are stunning of the new "Boho" vision that Peter Dundas has introduced to this range, and the photographs of Peter and the Model, Marike Le Roux, are gorgeous against the Italian background.
In my work, i get a chance to re-arrange and do my own layout of this article, as well as attempting to re-create the piece.
Article scanned from Harpers Bazaar, September 2010 issue.
