Vivienne Westwood
Born: 1941
Westwood came about creating a new quirkiness to fashion and introducing a new level of punk rock to fashion. The designer pushed the boundaries on what was "usual" and showed her fashion through radial cutting, underwear as outerwear and miss-match fabrics.
In the 70's Westwood met manager of the Sex Pistols; Malcolm Maclaren, and later opened a shop together on London's Kings Road. The shop was known as the height of the punk movement, and it sold clothes in leather, rubber and promoted the peak of the punk culture.
Westwood is one of the mos influential designers, with collections shocking the public with its outrageousness, with themes such as pirates, watches and her 'erotic zones' collection. But as much as her designs are slated for exploitation, her punk rock and re-inventive style is distinctive, and always one that never fails to impress.
